Wine Finds: Dry 2021 rosés from France, Chile

  • Updated

Although dry rosés can be enjoyed all year long, spring and summer months are when sales really take off. Because these crisp and refreshing wines are served chilled, they are a great option for warm weather sipping. While some rosés can age, most of the affordable ones taste the best when they are young and fresh. There are plenty of 2020 dry rosés at local retailers but if you want the latest vintage, look for 2021. Here are two very good examples.

The Pale 2021 Rosé by Sasha Lichine, Vin de Pays du Var, France

Bought • The Wine and Cheese Place, 7435 Forsyth Boulevard, in April for $14.99

Description • Sasha Lichine, the creator of the top-selling Whispering Angel brand of Provence rosé, is also the force behind this less expensive wine. The Pale, which had a limited launch last year, recently arrived in our market and appears to be selling quite well. A blend of grenache and cinsault, this light-bodied, dry wine has just a hint of color. Fresh and crisp, it tastes of subtle red fruit and zesty citrus. It makes for a lovely aperitif wine or a pair with seafood and other light dishes.

Casas del Bosque 2021 Rosé Pinot Noir, Valle de Casablanca, Chile

Bought • The Wine and Cheese Place, 7435 Forsyth Boulevard, in April for $13.99

Description • This light pink wine comes from the highly regarded Casas del Bosque, which specializes in cool-climate grape varieties including pinot noir. In fact, this single vineyard rosé is made from 100% pinot grapes planted on the coolest, westernmost reaches of Casablanca Valley. Elegant and fresh, this is a medium-bodied rosé with lots of flavor. Dry, but not bone-dry, it tastes of strawberries and other red fruits and ends with a clean, citrus finish. It would go well with fish and white meats.
